About la Peña
According to the story of Mr. Josep Gil, first president and founder of the club in an article published on the club's 25th anniversary, the club was founded by a group of Barcelonista friends who met at his office to form what was called "a cultural and recreational association, sheltered by the law of 24/12/64". Due to his work as an administrator, he handled the paperwork, which was complex, and by today's standards, irrational. It was recommended that petitioners be few and have a perfect curriculum, since it was necessary to ask the competent authority (the Civil Guard) for policy reports and the petitioners' police record to do so. Petitioners were Mr. Jaume Bosch, Mr. Etanislao Mateo , Mr. Josep Reguant and Mr. Josep Gil. The Civil Government's approval came after two months.
To have the first meeting, they had to ask for permission from the corresponding government (for meetings of more than three people it was necessary to ask for permission). The Rector's collaboration was requested, who gave them the parish cinema, Talia Hall, and on 19 September 1975 they held the first meeting with 35 to 40 persons in attendant, around whom the club was formed. An entry fee of 1,000 pesetas was set, they started setting up members.
At the beginning, and since there was no social headquarters, Mr. Valentí Orpí offered the Catalonia Bar located on the corner of Migdia Street and Sènia del Barral free of charge, where the first general meeting took place on 8 November 1975, at which was formed the first boeard of directors with the following members :

At the meeting, an annual member's fee of 600 Ptas was set, and they agreed that the club's official opening party would fall on the Day of San Román, promoting recovery of the major winter festival (it was one of the first entities to do so).
Different activities took place, such an homage to the deceased Barcelonistas, a program of Sardanas in front of the business premises organized by la Cobla Selvatana and a brotherhood dinner with attended by the presidentof the club, Mr. Agustí Montal.
La Penya has had other locations, such as the one on Calle Felicià Serra i Mont, and the current one on Calle Joseph LLuhí, purchased thanks to the contributions of its members.
There have been a lots of historic moments throughout these years, but since we can't talk about some of them while forgetting about others, we will do a general summary.
Many activities have been carried out, some evidently were related to the club's sporting sense, participation in our club's successes, moves, etc.
But there are also others which we could define as of a local character that have left their mark on the social, sporting and cultural life of our town.
Maybe one of the most important was initially consolidating the feat of the major festival of St. Romà together with the Friends of the Sardana. Also were important the chocolate fantasies, the Sardanas programs and the cross-country programs. …
Another important landmark of our club was the organization of the
world meeting of Peñas Barcelonistas in 2000, which was a succes. We recall during voting where the meet was to be held on October 23, 1999, we won with the favorite candidacy, la Peña 1900 of Terrassa, by just 4 votes of difference.
Currently the club is in a time of change after some difficult times (economic), but little by little we see solutions on the horizon.
To finish up, let's talk about two sections of the club Chess Section
In 1986, at the request of some fans, La Peña accepted the creation of the chess section. This section joined a federation and was launched playing in third regional. After three years, it was already in first provincial. During those years it became champion of Catalonia, and with more than thirty members by that time, it grew to have three teams, one in each category. The second was Gerona champion. Thanks to the willingness of the section leaders and the owners of the Hotel Clua, who granted the facilities, we initiated the first chess open (more than 100 players took part). It was held for thirteen years, until the hotel changed owners. Chess classes have also been given to children, and there has been participation in different tournaments, the one in Badalona being especially relevant, from which we earned a valuable trophy that required us to win for three years in a row or three years out of five.
At present, the club's chess section has joined the Lloret Club.
Basic Football Section
We should mention that this is an activity that can be carried out thanks to the selfless cooperation of parents, trainers and collaborators. Our present colours are blue and deep red. We currently have teams of pre-Benjamins, Benjamins, Alevines (Small Fry) (2 teams) , Infantiles (Children), Cadets and the second territorial team. The pre-Benjamins and Benjamins compete in groups in a league organised by the District Council. On certain occasions they have been champions of their group and have played in the provincial championship. The rest of the teams compete in the Federación Catalana de Fútbol (Catalonia Football Federation) competitions. The Alevines A, who played in 2nd Division during the 2006/2007 season, were league champions, playing nowadays in the first territorial divison while the B team plays in second division and has always been among the top ten in its category. In Infantiles A in the 2006-2007 season played in third division, were champions and rose to second division, where they play currently. Regarding the Cadets teams, we are in the middle of the classification. The top team lost the category last year, dropping to third territorial. Currently, and after a great season, promotion of the rise is at stake. Through the years the la Peña teams have taken part in friendly competitions with teams from the same town, from nearby towns and even foreign teams,
That generally stay in our city.
Throughout the years La Peña has organised the New Year's Tournament, in which Italian teams and the lesser categories of FC Barcelona have participated. We hope these lines will serve to show appreciation to everyone's efforts on behalf of the president and the board of directors. Many people have gone through basic football--generations--over the many years it has been operating, with more or less success, but with a dream that lets us overcome all the difficulties that come our way and that make us move ahead.
